Braddock Road Accident FAIRFAX COUNTY, Virginia — A man has died and several others, including a Fairfax County police officer, were injured Friday afternoon in a multi‑vehicle crash at the intersection of Braddock Road and Campus Drive, authorities confirmed.
Fairfax County Police responded to the scene shortly after 1:09 p.m. after reports of a collision involving four vehicles, including a Fairfax County Police Department cruiser, at a red light near the George Mason University western campus.
Investigators said three vehicles were stopped at the red light when a fourth vehicle, described as a black car travelling at high speed, struck the police cruiser from behind. The force of the impact pushed the cruiser into the vehicles ahead.
The 56‑year‑old male driver of the striking vehicle was killed in the crash, authorities confirmed. Three other drivers involved were transported to local hospitals with non‑life‑threatening injuries, including the Fairfax County police officer.
Braddock Road was closed in both directions near Campus Drive for hours as police crash‑reconstruction units secured the scene and conducted their investigation. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes while the roadway was blocked and cleared.
Fairfax County Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision and are urging anyone with video or information related to the incident to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
